The Atlantic Hotel

I just came home from my office in Berlin and have been waiting to post these pictures all day long! Today, my fabulous coworkers and I walked to the historic Atlantic Hotel to have dinner in the Drummer's Cafe. The Atlantic Hotel is by far one of my favorite places to hang out in the Ocean City area. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love this place. It's old, charming, beautiful and decorated perfectly!
The Atlantic Hotel was built in 1895 in the village of Berlin, MD. The building has been owned by several families, each choosing to keep it's original elements. Currently owned by the Fager family and decorated by Angela Reynolds, the hotel is decorated based on Victorian period charm.

There are 18 period-decorated guest rooms, suites, dining areas, parlor, and a small ballroom. All of the furniture and accessories are authentic antiques - some original to the building, others brought to the hotel from around the world.
My friend Angela snapped a few pictures of me in the ballroom. Aren't those curved half-sofas rad? There are 2 of them in the building. Love the furniture, and the fact that Angela was willing to hang around after our business lunch to sneak around the rooms and take a "self-guided" and "self-directed" tour. The furniture and fixtures are so beautiful they make me want to cry!
Feel free to laugh, I can be a huge ham infront of a camera! :)
The hotel is a grand structure and probably one of the most well known buildings in the little town of Berlin. There's a stellar little cottage down the street from the Atlantic that is also owned by the hotel. It's known as the "Gardner's Cottage". One of these days I'm going to (hopefully) take a tour of that charming little guest area, too.
There are so many neat pictures, drawings, paintings, and embroidered art hanging on the walls of the hotel. There is even a portrait wall as your walk up the main stairway that features pictures of prominent Eastern Shore families from the Victorian Era. The frames are all solid wood, massive, and extremely heavy, I'm sure.
This was the view from my office window this afternoon. Overlooking town hall and the antique store in downtown Berlin right before the rain broke loose. We have some of the prettiest skies here! I always find myself amazed by how quick the weather can change while living on the shore.

Moral of the story? If you ever make it to Berlin, take advantage of its rich history and architecture. You'd be surprised to hear all of the fun history lessons in our area.
