Facebook

I deleted my personal Facebook account 3 weeks ago. It was one of the most rewarding decisions I have made in a long time. Here’s some reasoning:
  1. I have much more spare time. If you’ve ever gotten sucked into the Facebook vortex of clicking through someone’s photos, reading endless event invitations, or tagging photos of your friends – you know what I’m talking about.
  2. I don’t have to worry about ‘friends of a friend of a friend’ posting weird stuff on my wall. I had enough ‘surprise’ comments or photo tags that I wasn’t expecting everyone on my friend list to see (especially while hunting for jobs… not the best impression for future employers).
  3. It’s nice to not rely on Facebook as a way of communication. My real friends are the ones who have my phone number, call me on a regular basis to hang out, text message me when something awesome is happening (or just to drop a friendly ‘hello’), or know where I live and swing by. No more private messages for this ‘gal.
  4. People who don’t like me or don't know me well are no longer able to ‘spy’ on me. I felt like a few individuals (let’s call them ‘haters’) who don’t like me for whatever reason were using my personal Facebook to keep dibbs on me. Why would I want to feed in to their repulsion towards me?
I worked my way around some Facebook analytics to still be able to manage my work/business accounts and created a ‘fan page’ for Little Miss Lovely. If you’re still using Facebook, and haven’t already, please ‘like’ the Little Miss Lovely FB page. I’ve been posting many of my most recent blog features and random lovely things on that page.

That means that, technically, I’m not really 100% off of Facebook. Why? Because I think Facebook is a great tool for business networking. It’s a free way to get your name out there. I just don’t want my personal life completely out there. I’m one of those little rascals who thinks that ‘checking in’, instant posts, and immediate responses aren’t the safest thing.  I guess I just like my privacy.

In the age of smart phones, laptops, and iPads – technology is constantly surrounding us. I hope that people don’t forget to make time for themselves and instead get caught up in what everyone else is doing.

After all of this rambling… I’m anti-personal Facebook, pro-business Facebook. With that said, please go ‘like’ Little Miss Lovely on FB.

I’ve also created a mobile scan code for Little Miss Lovely. It had a lot to do with me finding it more convenient to scan things rather than to type “Little Miss Lovely Vintage” in the Google toolbar of my iphone than anything else. Just scan this code with the smartphone app, ScanLife (it’s free), and it will immediately bring up the mobile version of this little blog.
Thanks for being troopers as I barter with society’s social media efforts. Does anyone else feel strongly about these social-technological advances? I know that I can’t be the only one. Speak your peace, please! I’d love to hear what you think about it!
