A Walk on the Wild Side

Last week I had a handsome visitor staying with me for a few days. It was beyond enjoyable. That Mr. I've been hanging out with so frequently really knows how to make a girl feel special and cared for. Anyways, I'll stop sharing my fondness for this gentleman on my blog (at least for now). On one sunny afternoon, after spending all morning on the beach, we made an impromtu trip to the Salisbury Zoo.

I've been wanting to visit this zoo ever since I claimed the Eastern Shore as my residence. The Salisbury Zoo is a free zoo that was founded in 1954. The zoo is run completely off of donations and volunteers. Crazy, right? It's open every day of the year, too, except for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

The animals were gorgeous! I don't think I've ever really had a chance to photograph animals like this before. It was like they were astonished by Bruce's fancy camera that I was borrowing. Just begging to have their pictures taken and be featured on Little Miss Lovely. If these little animals only knew!

There were spectacle bears, red wolves, llamas, alligators, eagles, white-tailed deer, and many more species from the Americas at this zoo. Here are a few of my favorites:
(This peacock definitly put on a little show for us! He spread his tail feathers and spun around a few times. Look at how colorful!)

(Isn't it obvious that we just came from the beach? Swimsuit, cover up, and wet hair. When you live in a beach town, you can go anywhere in your swim wear. It's kind of a huge perk.)
(The prarie dogs were so adorable! There were babies in their habitat, too. They are like giant hampsters. So loveable.)

(There's a giant black jaguar back there climbing on a rock.)

That concludes our dorky field trip to the zoo. I'm hoping to be back more often now that I know of all the goodness found behind the entrance gate. If you're ever visiting the Ocean City area, put the zoo on your to-do list while you're in town. Does your city have a zoo? I think I'd like to see more animals!
