After, quite possibly, one of the busiest work weeks of my life... I’m finally getting a chance to focus on my blogging. Stress from work caught up with me last week and I was so excited to get out of town, forget everything going on, have some quality alone time to focus on things running through my brain, and take a little road trip. Road trip to southern North Carolina in one weekend! Some may think I’m crazy – I like to call it an adventure.
18 hours of driving, 3 full tanks of gas, 2 nights at separate Holiday Inns, some hiking, some pin up posing, lots of exploring, and great food – I’m home, back to work, and enjoying being back in my own house.
First thing I wanted to do? Check out the Dinosaur Trail at the Museum of Life & Science in North Durham, NC. Rawr!
This big brontosaurus overlooks the entrance to the newly built Dino Trail. Apparently, a few years ago, someone snapped off the poor fellow’s head! He was left decapitated and abandoned in the woods. Recently, the museum fixed him up and added more dinos and dinosaur babies to the trail. Only bummer was that they are all fenced in now. The fences kind of ruin picture opportunities. Guess that’s what happens when someone messes with dinosaurs.
There were 8 separate dinosaur installations along the trail. The giant alamosaurus was my favorite. It started pouring while I was walking the trail, so I chose to run back to the museum once my little red flats became completely saturated with muddy puddle water.
I found out about this 40-year-old Brontosaurus via Road trip America. One of my favorite sites about kitschy road trip pit stops. If you’re planning a road trip anytime soon, download the Roadside America app for your smart phone. It alerts you when there is something kitschy close by.
I had a sneak peek of what it would have been like to walk through a forest 68-65 million years ago. Like I said before, Rawr!
