The Globe: Window Displays by Little Miss Lovely

Earlier this week I brought a creation that has been circling through my mind for the past 2 weeks to life. I had visions of plaid, tulle-lined curtains, twinkle lights covered in tattered fabric scraps, chandeliers made of shiny silver forks, and bold letters wrapped in fabric teetering upon piles of dishes and restaurant dining ware. On Monday night, I brought these fantasies to life. The Globe is a hot spot in Berlin, MD. It’s one of those places you go to hang out with a large group of friends, participate in heated games of trivia, watch live bands perform, check out artwork created by talented local artists, and eat delicious meals prepared in a way unlike any other local restaurant. It’s a spot that conjures up great memories and realllly makes me want to drink a Dark and Stormy out of a copper mug (they’re my favorite and the Globe makes them the best!). During Berlin’s first bridal event, Say I Do in Berlin, three Little Miss Lovely models walked down a runway through the Globe. They wore vintage fashions from my collection, carried hand-made floral bouquets, and handed out information about Little Miss Lovely. It was awesome and Jennifer, the owner of the Globe, was a fantastic host and I was thrilled to be a part of Globe history. After New Year’s, Jen approached me with ideas for a window design. I was ecstatic. The Globe has a huge window under the covered front porch and a smaller window filled with news bulletins and posters promoting touring bands. I got to work. A color scheme of cranberry, deep red, dark grey, black, and white set the tone. I drilled through 200 recycled forks to create 4 hanging chandeliers. I sewed 4 plaid curtain panels lined in white tulle and tied them back with white lace. I used cardboard to create 12”, 3D letters and wrapped them in coordinating fabric. The letters were placed upon teetering piles of plates collected from local thrift shops, Globe coffee cups and tumblers, George’s Bloody Mary Mix, vintage cans from old crab meat, and bar ware. I added some sparkle to the window with a 15’ strand of lights covered in fabric scraps with prints of music notes, plaid, fun swirls and polka dots. A set of theater seats from the old Globe Theater were displayed up front and center and a big flat screen TV showcases photos from recent events. If you’re in the Berlin area, swing by the Globe, check out the window displays by Little Miss Lovely, have a seat at the Copper Top bar, and enjoy! - Ami
