When you look at a soon-to-be-bride's Pinterest page for the first time, it's usually fairly chaotic with so many different 'themes' happening that you really have no idea what their wedding is going to look like; you just know things that they like and what they want. Catie's Pinterest board was filled with 3 things... Large, nontraditional bouquets, gold glitter everything, & lots of woodsy elements mixed with pinecones. These were all items that I knew I had to incorporate into her wedding day.
Upon meeting Catie to discuss her wedding flowers, the bride mentioned that she loves scrolling through wedding blogs and would like to have her big day featured in a bridal blog. My heart fluttered and I knew that she would be totally okay with me 'going all out' with design elements for her wedding.
Break out the gold glitter, spray paint, modge podge and add a few trips to the recycling center to go dumpster diving in the glass bin and - ta da! - Catie's wedding came to life.
Catie & Logan were married at the Historic St. Martin's Church in Berlin, Maryland. The church seemed even older and had more of a presence than usual on a grey, cloudy, drizzly Saturday afternoon. The place really had a sincere simplicity about it last Saturday and was the perfect setting for an intimate wedding.
Catie's bouquet was to die for. It may be one of my favorites of all time. Garden roses, sunflowers, tulips, dahlias, anemones, snapdragons, berries, gold thistle, and so many others. This bouquet was huge, heavy, and full of fun-vibrancy. A gold and silver heart charm hung from stripped black and white ribbon on the bouquet stems.
The groom wore a bright red dahlia boutonniere. Sprigs of rosemary, red-dyed solidago and golden thistle were tucked behind the dahlia. The groom's bout was wrapped in the same black and white stripped ribbon as the bride's bouquet. Logan enjoys fishing; a red and gold feather fishing lure hung off of this boutonniere.
Catie chose to have her two beautiful sisters be her bridesmaids. In contrast to the bride's bouquet, their bouquets were mostly ivory florals with some red accents. They contrasted against their black dresses nicely. They girls wore matching flower crowns, too.... so cute.
Their flower girl carried a rustic flower basket with ribbons adorning the handle. She threw deep red rose petals as she entered the church.
The mother of the bride and groom wore wrist corsages made of white ranunculus and ivory spray roses. Little tiny duck feathers were tucked into each corsage.
The fathers coordinated perfectly and wore ivory spray rose boutonnieres tied with cranberry-colored ribbon and accented with gold and red fishing hooks from France.
Logan's two groomsmen wore fluffy white dahlia boutonnieres with fishing hooks.
The couple's officiant even wore a matching boutonniere.
After the wedding, the guests headed to the Ocean Pines Yacht Club to partake in the reception. The Yacht Club was transformed into a welcoming woodsy atmosphere marked with lots of sparking, glitzy attention-catchers.
The centerpieces were by-far one of my favorite things to create for this special occasion. There were mason jars placed atop wood slices on each table. Some jars were covered in gold glitter, some were just glittery on the bottom, and others were painted solid gold. Each centerpiece was created using cranberry colored, deep red and ivory flowers. Sliced pomegranates, plums & cranberries were placed at the base. Spanish moss, pinecones & golden seashells tied the beachy setting into the bride & groom's woodsy theme.
The sweetheart table was so dreamy. More than a dozen wine/beer/liquor bottles were painted gold and covered in glitter. Tall taper candles were added. This little table looked so dreamy when the lights were dimmed and the candles were flickering.
The naked cake was a show stopped. Desserts by Rita nailed it! I placed a few flower heads and greenery gently atop the cake. Decorations placed around the three-tiered caked matched pleasantly.
Opposite from the cake table was a 'Selfie Station'... a backdrop to be used for guests sharing selfies on Instagram and Facebook. Super cute idea! I sewed the red satin curtains myself and they looked very glam when next to the thick green garland created for the station.
I was checking the couple's hashtag all night waiting for guests to post their selfies and photos from the wedding!
Congratulations, Catie & Logan! I had the best time getting to know you, Catie. I can't wait to hang out with you again. I am so happy to have been a part of making you wedding dream a reality. Can't wait to see more photos! Have fun on your honeymoon!
