Loosing a loved one is such a difficult thing to deal with. When Lydia approached me about creating floral arrangements for her mothers memorial service I couldn’t help but excitedly say yes. Lydia had explained to me that her mother was an avid gardener, quilter, crafter, collector, and absolutely loved flowers. I was excited to create floral arrangements in honor of someone who shared so many favorited hobbies as myself.
Lydia brought me an amazing selection of ceramic Colonial crocks her mother had collected, a few baskets that her mother hand-wove herself, and vases that her mother had displayed during the holidays at her home each and every year. She gave me a few colors that her mother often decorated with and listed a few of her favorite flowers; hydrangea, roses, zinnias in shades of yellows and blues mixed with holiday greenery.
I filled each of these family heirlooms with fresh blooms and kept with the Colonial-style of the vessels by incorporating fresh fruit in each arrangement. Cranberries, oranges pierced with dried cloves, and sliced lemons added a vibrancy to each arrangement.
The memorial service took place at Peaky’s Restaurant looking over the Atlantic Ocean to the East and the stunning bay to the west. Dozens of individuals showed up to share their memories of Regina Esham with her family and friends. Lydia and her brother placed special collectables belonging to their mother on each table. Table centerpieces featured glass pitchers, ceramic crocks, tiny porcelain tea cups, quilts, and baskets. It was such a nice way to incorporate their mother’s spirit into the ceremony.
Thank you, Lydia, for asking me to be a part of your mother’s service. It was a pleasure working with you and meeting your family. Each of your family members that I interacted with were so nice. It really made my day to hear you and your family say that your mother would have loved these arrangements. I am sure that you have made her proud and she is thanking you from up above.
Your mother will always be remember for her infinite love and creativity.
