When working on wedding plans with an art teacher and a professional cook, I knew to expect things that were a little zany and totally unique... I couldn't have asked for Stephanie & Joe's wedding day to be any more creative and filled with love than it turned out to be. As a professional in a creative industry, I had looked forward to doing this art teachers wedding for nearly an entire year. I mean, how often do you get to work with an artist who appreciates all aspects of originality, color, the principles of art -- and really likes to have a good time?!
I met with Stef and her mother nearly a year before her 12/13/14 wedding date. Unlike most brides that meet with me for their initial floral consultation, Stef new exactly what she wanted, how she wanted it to look, and the feel she was going for all after just being engaged for a few weeks. She's a girl of my own heart, to say the least; in love with organization and planning.
Stefanie and Joe's wedding took place at the
Ocean Pines Yacht Club. I have set up the Yacht Club for 8 different weddings in the past year and each time I am amazed by how versatile their reception space is. Stef and Joe transformed the yacht club into a beach-theme venue filled with a teal and white color scheme and sparkling silver accents. It was a nice mix of beachy winter romance.

Stefanie's bouquet was awesome. She had asked for a traditional-shaped bouquet filled with mostly teal blooms. I hand-painted hydrangea and orchids to create teal flowers. I made and added three large felt flowers that were tie-died teal and green. They were paired with white roses, stock & large chrysanthemums. Her bouquet was wrapped in ivory silk and delicate lace.
The bridesmaids carried similar bouquets made of mostly white florals with teal accents. Their bouquets were wrapped in silver silk ribbon.

The boutonnieres were some of my favorite items from this wedding. The groom wore a single orchid painted teal paired with greenery and tied with ivory ribbon to match his bride. The best man wore a white orchid with a teal-painted spray rose. The groomsmen wore white mums with teal spray roses.
Aren't these the neatest little wrist corsages you've ever seen? I loved how the silver bruin played off of my silver-painted orchids and the silver ribbon. They matched the father boutonnieres perfectly.
Stefanie created a few silver, glitter-covered elements to incorporate into their ceremony backdrop. A mixture of tropical leaves and greenery covered the top of their fabric covered archway while fresh hydrangea, peonies & eucalyptus accents marked the center and sides of the backdrop. A gathering of fresh mistletoe hung from the center of the backdrop... fitting for the first kiss of a December wedding ceremony!
The table centerpieces matched the theme and setting nicely. Tall cylindrical vases were weighted with teal sand. Starfish, crystals & pearls were illuminated by LED lights in the base. Large floral toppers in ivory, white, teal & green sat above each table. Small crystals hung from the base of each arrangement.
How gorgeous is this cake created by Rita of
Desserts by Rita?? The couples cake topper could not have been more perfect. Mr. & Mrs. starfish in beach chairs; one wearing a chef's hat, the other holding an artist pallet and paintbrush.
Congratulations, Stefanie & Joe! Thank you for including me as part of your special day. It was an honor to work with such a sweet family. Wishing you the best and a lifetime of happiness!
