Devin and Brad did it right! They exchanged nuptials in the garden of a small, historic building in their hometown and celebrated with a reception at the bride's small boutique just down the street. The bride arrived via horse-drawn carriage and awed the audience composed of friends and family. I had such a great time walking around the reception venue, talking to the bride's mother, and checking out all of the hand-made details on Devin & Brad's wedding day. The newlyweds had booked me as their wedding florist this past winter. I must say, that receiving an email from Devin asking for bouquets that were filled with playful colors and a bit of whimsy to fit into their garden-themed wedding in the midst of winter was so uplifting. I had looked forward to arranging pink peonies, bright colored ranunculus & orange garden roses for months. Keeping with the garden theme set by the couple, I knew I wanted to incorporate a few special pieces into their bouquets and boutonnieres. The brides bouquet & the bridesmaid bouquets were filled with soft greenery not normally found in bouquets... mint! I used fresh mint as the greenery in each of the bouquets. The groom's boutonniere was accented with a stem of mint and a small branch of rosemary. Each groomsman had mint greenery tucked into their bouts, as well. The father's boutonnieres included a bloom from a basil plant. The wrist corsages that the mothers wore included fresh mint and rosemary sprigs. The bride and her sister own and operate a small shop in downtown historic Berlin, Maryland: Sea La Vie. You must check it out while you are wandering through Berlin on your next day off! They cleared out the inventory in the store, stashed away their displays and fixtures, and used their little shop as the reception venue. Find the shop on Facebook here: Sea La Vie. Devin & her girls got ready at the beautiful Gardener's Cottage of the Atlantic Hotel. My heart skips a beat each time I'm able to deliver wedding flowers to this adorable cottage.
