There is something to be said about the popularity of rustic, laid-back weddings with a country feel. The rustic, not too fancy feel of a wedding with burlap accents, wooden accessories, and beautiful fancy feel can make any guests feel welcome.
How can you make your wedding venue feel a bit rustic? Often times the thought of decorating a golf and country club, convention center meeting room, or hotel ballroom to your liking for your wedding can seem daunting. Keep it simple! Stick to a color scheme that coordinates with the room. Stick to a complimentary theme. Adhere to a style that matches your personality.
Lighthouse Sound Restaurant is one of my favorite reception and wedding venues in the Ocean City, MD area. The space has a ceiling of dark wood beams, several fireplaces made of heavy grey stone, hearty wooden mantles, and masculine leather chairs. Many of my brides ask how they can make the space feel more feminine.
This tablescape was created to show couples how to incorporate some feminine accents into a masculine setting while keeping things simple and adding a laid-back rustic feel.
Spring is such a popular time for weddings. The weather gets warmer, the sun shine lingers longer, the beaches are deserted, and there are gorgeous possibilities when it comes to seasonal flowers.
Burlap table runners were used to add a charming, rustic touch to the reception tables. Wine corks were cut and used to hold hand-stamped place cards. Mini mason jars filled with moonshine were placed at each place setting and used as wedding favors (so cute, right?!). Linens were kept ivory to add an airiness to the room. Cloth napkins were just a shade darker than the linens to add dimension to the table settings.
The floral arrangement was a work of art. A rectangular wooden box was filled with extravagant spring blooms. Shades of pastel flowers complimented the ivory, brown & teal accents on the table. Dusty miller, pale pink spray roses, full pastel purple and ivory roses, funky feathered lime green roses, and fringe tulips were artfully arranged and mimicked the spring flowers spouting outside. A mixture of textured filled flowers aiding in creating a rustic feel; purple wax flower, lavender limonium, and pink heather. Four tiny teal mason jars were filled with large blooms of baby’s breath and lavender limonium.
The texture and fullness of this arrangement are what really make it a perfect wedding centerpiece. The shorter height of this box of blooms makes it feel less traditional and less ‘fancy’ than a tall wedding centerpiece… assisting in the feel of a more relaxed, more rustic wedding. The pastel colors and amount of florals will help make any masculine wedding reception venue feel more feminine.
Bouquets and boutonnieres in a matching color scheme wrapped in natural twine would look incredible. Pair the pastel flowers with pastel bridesmaids dresses or dress in a shade of grey. Pale purple roses would look stunning against grey or khakis colored groomsmen suits.
Incorporating things personal to the couple (like the moonshine favors and wine cork place card holders), beautiful attention-getting centerpieces, and the feel created in the space are what your wedding guests will really remember.
