Lancaster Railway Station

The train station in Lancaster, PA is one of the most charming places I’ve ever hung out in. I’ve taken the train from Lancaster to Philadelphia several times. It's a nice way to get to the Philly station and head to big cities elsewhere. This train also travels to Harrisburg, Pittsburg, Trenton, New York City, and Altoona. The grand train station was built in 1929 by the Pennsylvania Railroad company. Amtrak currently owns this small station.  A picture of the station from an old postcard:The main building is made mostly of brick. The large bricked columns that you pass by to enter the...

Pollen

Pollen. Yuck. I can't escape it. My poor sinuses. The trees in the Ocean City area are producing high amounts of this dusty yellow stuff and it's sticking to everything! Above - The pollen just clumps on my front porch. It almost looks like someone took yellow sidewalk chalk to the wood. That's my car. Only 3 hours after washing it. It's covered... again! Yellow, yellow, everywhere. I hope this "very high pollen alert" stage passes quickly. If it sticks around any longer, my itchy eyes and runny nose will hate spring. On a better note, I'm just glad we...

10 Things You Could Give Up

"50 Things You Need to Give Up Now". I've decided to post these 50 things. Not all at once. It's a little overwhelming. If I post 10 a day, I think it's easier to try and achieve giving up these things or at least bringing them to your attention. These are things that I find myself thinking about often and trying to improve upon. 1. Give up beating around the bush. – Say what you mean and mean what you say.  Communicate effectively.2. Give up avoiding change. – However good or bad a situation is now, it will change.  That’s...

BUiLDiNG CHARACTER

You know that I can’t go anywhere without stopping to do some thifting! On Monday, while in Lancaster city, I walked the streets and did some window shopping. Of course I hit up Mommalicious, got a cup of tea at Rachel's Cafe & Creperie, and wondered into BUiLDiNG CHARACTER.  The last time I went shopping downtown, I did a little blog post about Mommalicious. It was pouring outside that day and I didn’t want to run down the street to BUiLDiNG CHARACTER after scoring a parking spot right outside of Mommalicious’ front door. Someone posted a nice little comment on that blog...

Stehli Silk Mill 2

In continuation from yesterday's post about the historic Stehli Silk Mill... more pictures! These photos are from Warehouse 2. I didn't spot many silk-related items in this warehouse nor warehouse 3, but the building itself was fantastic! You don't see character and charm in buildings like this anymore.Alright, so maybe there were a few traces of someone once being in this building. Shoes and a bowtie positioned gracefully on an old antique desk...Check out those buckling floors. It's like there was something growing under those floor boards. The floors were only like this in this one warehouse on the one...
