Hersheypark Arena

I was in Pennsylvania on Friday. Yes, 2 weekends in a row. There’s a good reason behind all of these visits though. Maybe I’ll be able to give you more detail sometime soon. Anyways, I spent Friday night watching a hockey game. Not just any hockey game, a hockey game in which one of my friends was playing, in a town known for its hockey history. Hershey, Pennsylvania has been home to hockey since 1936. In ’36 the Hersheypark Arena opened after the Hershey B’ars, known as the Hershey Bears today, formed an AHL team. The arena has been home...

Byrd Crabmeat, Crisfield

Maryland’s Eastern Shore is crab central. This area has been known for its crabbing history and harvests. Blue crabs are a must while dining in Maryland (unless you’re allergic to shellfish, like me). I went to crab central earlier this week. Crisfield, Maryland… South-western point in Somerset County where it’s heaven for crabbers and fishermen. I’ve never visited Crisfield before and decided that I should since it’s only an hour away from my house and I’ve been living here for almost a year and half. I’m glad that I visited. One of those towns that you have to visit at...

Belvedere

I get so excited when I see classic cars! Like practically turn around in the car and stretch my neck excited when I spot them... and I'm really good at spotting old cars. I noticed this car while driving down Route 13 last week. I believe it's a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere. Such sleek styling! How could you resist those fins? She's a beauty! & she's for sale. I called the number written on the windshield and am waiting for a response with my details. Just curious. What do you think?

Marion Baptist Church

I had read through the listings of Maryland historical buildings before I left for this trip hoping to remember their locations while driving. I knew that I was close this church that I had read about earlier while driving through Marion, MD but wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for. Then, WHAM!, all of a sudden, it practically hit me in the face! This beautiful giant building is the Marion Baptist Church, built in 1925, organized in 1896. Here is a picture of the church in October of 1984 from the historical society. (Click on the above text to view...

Somerset Packing Co. & Cannery

Do you enjoy tomatoes? I found the coolest spot today if you’re a tomato lover. This old warehouse shadows over Kings Creek, hundreds of farm acres, and the nearby railroad. A perfect location for a large canning factory. The Somerset Packing Co. was opened in the late 1800’s. There were several canneries in south Somerset County, Maryland at this time. These canneries were always located close to railroads and the Pocomoke River so the produce, from local farms, could be shipped to other areas of the United States via trains or steamboats. The Somerset Packing Co. was a tomato cannery in Pocomoke, MD....
