Queponco Railway Station

In the village of Newark, Maryland, there is a fun little railway station that is vacant and nonfunctioning. The Queponco Station, silent and unused, is a symbol of earlier times when the railroad was a vital part of the daily life of the people living on Maryland's eastern coast. This railway station is located halfway between Berlin, Maryland and Snow Hill, Maryland. The Queponco Station was built in 1910. The port closed in the mid 1960's because passenger services dwindled in the area. (p.s. I made that seafom green wrap skirt from a vintage pattern. I'm quite proud of it.) The Pennsylvania Railroad Company...

Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival

This was perhaps the sultriest Saturday night I've ever had. Two of my studly friends and I headed to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania for the Jim Thorpe Burlesque Festival. It was quite a reveal.Jim Thorpe is an adorable little town nestled in the Pocono region of Pennsylvania. While driving there, there was nothing in site. Middle of nowhere. Then, we turned the corner and it was like "Bam! Welcome to Jim Thorpe!" It was a charming town to say the least. The "Big Reveal" took place in the Mauch Chunk Opera House and was almost sold out. Proceeds from the show...

Isaac Meier Homestead

On Saturday, my dad and I drove through Central Pennsylvania Amish country to go visit my grandparents and celebrate the 30th wedding anniversary of two close family friends. On the way home from a celebratory lunch, we stopped to check out this place.Glad my dad was willing to stop and let me wonder around for a while. Thanks, dad! What did I find out about this eye-catcher? This is the Isaac Meier Homestead in Myerstown, PA. Meier built this traditional house in 1770. Architecturally, this home is a fantastic example of local Lebanon Country history. The large limestone used to...

Life is Swell

I'm loving life right now. I think a change of scenery is needed every now and again.Look at all of these vintage spottings! The antique stores around here have some neat finds that I haven't seen in Maryland in quite some time. At reasonable prices, too. This funky camper has been parked down the street from my parents house for over a year (yes, everyone is tired of seeing it along the street) with a for sale sign on the door. Any takers? The guy who owns it says, "$500, or best offer". A little loving and it could be...

Dinosaur Rock

More trail hiking in Mount Gretna, PA. I just can't get enough. This gorgeous trail leads to this... Dinosaur Rock.. Dinosaur Rock was formed millions of years ago by shifting plates on the earth's surface... yadda yadda yadda. You know just as much about the formation of the earth as I do, if not more. For obvious reasons, this spot has truly earned its name. My dad used to take my sister and me hiking through the woods to check out this 'dinosaur' quite often when we were younger. I'm still as amazed by this rock formation now as I...
